There are some major differences between a manager and a leaders. First of all, managers plan, organize, direct and coordinate work within an organization. Characteristics of a manager include authority, networking with other staff, and making decisions such as hiring and firing. On the other hand, leaders inspire others to achieve a desired outcome. “Leaders have combination of personality traits and leadership skills (Perrin, 2010). Some characteristics of leaders include being inspiring, having a positive attitude, influencing their staff, and using rewards to motivate staff.

I believe that being a democratic leader is best when it comes to working with nurses because they include everyone when decisions are made. Also, the fact that staff is recognized when achieving a goal is motivating for the nurses. “Work output by staff is usually of good quality when cooperation and collaboration are necessary” (Perrin, 2010).
