After exploring the Sigma Theta Tau website, I immediately noticed their logo and underneath the word Sigma it says global nursing excellence. I noticed the amount of resources they offer and that they are not only a local organization that supports the nursing institution, but it supports nursing in a global standard. Sigma has members that reside in over 90 countries, at more than 700 institutions throughout the world (Sigma Nursing, n.d.). Something else that stood out to me was the prestige behind Sigma, how potential member are required to meet eligibility criteria. To be considered or invited as a student, the student must have completed at least half of the nursing curriculum, have a GPA of at least 3.0 out of a 4.0 grade scale, rank in the top 35% of the graduating class, and meet academic integrity (Sigma Nursing, n.d.). Members have access to products and services that help to advance nurses professionally, the services are to help nurses advance in education, as a leader, in their career, scholarships, and were the first to contribute to nursing research.
