My plate

'My plate' is a nutrition guide published by United States Department of Agriculture( USDA). This plan gives an idea or thr information about what to eat and what quantities to eat.

Daily eating log

Day 1 ( sample menu)

breakfast

Bread toast (3 slices)with 1 cup of coffee with cofee

nuts 20g

Lunch

Sandwich and tomato soup

Chicken fry( 50g)

Evening snack

apple 1

Dinner

Noodles ( 1 cup)with corn (1/4cup)and green peas( 1/4 cup)

tuna fish ( 1 piece)

  

Correlating with ' My Plate'

The above said sample menu is inadequate in calories for a woman/ man in terms of Calories and vitamins.According to ' My Plate' guidelines among the four parts majority( 40%) vegetables, 30% grains, 10% fruits and 20 % proteins and 1 glass of milk or yoghurt. The sample menu contains very less vegetables and fruits. Also grains are poorly added to the above said sample menu. protien is sufficient but Yoghurt or skimmed milk can be added to the diet.

Cultural and social factors that affects food choices

1. Social class . ( lower class people tend to take cheap food while high class people tend to take costly and more nutritive food.

2.Income and availability of items

3. Cultural factors( food habits of ones own local culture)

4. Peer influence

5. Religious factors( restrictions of certain food types in some religion)

How to make diet healthier

1. Add whole wheat bread/ oats to diet

2. Add more vegetable salads with lunch

3. Instead of fried chicken , Grilled or baked chicken can eat

4. Have more fruits
