I do believe that socializing with your colleagues is extremely beneficial in creating a better learning environment. Socialization is the process by which people learn to become members of groups and society. As nurses we have to work jointly with other healthcare professionals in a collegial manner. It is a constant process whereby healthcare professionals work together to improve patient/client outcomes. By socializing you get a sense of support from your peers and leaders and expectation of the work environment become more clear. "Nursing students, through professional socialization, can obtain the necessary commitment in the profession with problem solving and critical thinking practices like a “nurse.” (Zarshenas, 2014) As nurses we are part of team, one cannot stay isolated. In order to gain some benefits on the job like having a fellow nurse cover your shift you need to get to know your colleagues a little better. While you do not have to like everyone on your floor, you do need to be a team player and actively participate.
