cDNA is generally used to measure gene expression using PCR instead of gDNA because cDNA does not contain introns. cDNA does not contain any other gDNA that does not directly code for a protein. cDNA only contains genes that are being actively transcribed by a specific cell or tissue at a point in time.

A cDNA contains much less information than gDNA, but what information is present is a lot more relevant to the researcher as cDNA does not contain sequences that are unnecessary to the functioning and replication of the cell.
