This test is used to check whether an organism is able to produce lipase which is used to break lipids into fatty acids and glycerol.In this test spirit blue dye and agar are used as reagents.The agar is produced by adding special spirit blue dye, agar and an emulsion of olive oil.

So, if and bacteria is able to produce lipase the test turns out to be positive.
