Answer #1

1. As per hardy-weinberg equilibrium all the individuals in a population are in a non evolving state. The conditions for this principle is that there will be no mutation, no migration, no natural selection and the population would be infinitely large and will perform random mating.

Option 2 and 5

2. Genotype of tasters = PP or Pp

Genotype of non tasters = pp

Number of tasters = PP + Pp = 84% of 1000 = 840

Number of non tasters = pp = 1000 - 840 = 160

As per HWE, p + q = 1

Allelic frequency of p = √160/√1000 = 12.64/31.62 = 0.399

Allelic frequency of P = 1 - 0.399 = 0.601

Frequency of PP = (0.601)(0.601) = 0.361 or 361 in a population of 1000.

So, frequency of heterozygotes will be 840 - 361 = 479 (approximately 480)
