The proto-oncogene are normal gene that are not involved in causing cancer. But when these genes get mutated and form oncogene, they cause various type of cancer in the body. The proto-oncogene can convert into oncogene by following 3 main mechanism:

I. Mutagenesis either by radiation or chemical.

II. Virus infection cycle

III. Chromosomal rearrangement like chromosomal translocation.
