The figure 5-33 shows how specialized transduction operates in phage λ. The crossover at the specialized attachment sites produced a lysogenic bacterium. The lysogenic bacterium can produce a normal λ or very rarely it can produce λdgal. Therefore, the rarest genotype produced in the initial lysate is the rare abnormal out-looping, λdgal. It is a transducing particle containing the gal gene.
