How did Wundt differentiate between mediate and immediate experience?
According to the beliefs of the Wundt, whole science is founded on the basis of the experiences including scientific psychology. Psychology is founded on the different types of the experiences in comparison with the others. Other branches of the science are founded on the mediate experiences, whereas the psychology is formed on the basis of the immediate experiences.
Data used by the physicist for example, measurement of the wavelength of the light is done by the use of an instrument called as the spectrometers, whereas the intensity of the sound is measured with the help of the sound spectrographs. Physicist collects the data from the instrument to analyze the physical world’s characteristics. Here the scientist’s experience depends on the recordings collected by the devices.
These experiences are not direct in fact they are mediated. According to the Wundt, the subject and matter of the psychology is based on the consciousness of the human and the real life experiences. They are not mediated by any device. They are the direct experiences of the real life. Psychology works on the immediate experiences of the individuals.
