Nurse auditing can be extremely important to develop a plan or care and ensure patient safety. As we all know, documentation is imperative to achieve high quality and safe patient care (Mykkanen, 2015). The quality of patient care can depend heavily on the meticulousness of documentation a nurse inputs (Mykkanen, 2015). Different methods and tools have been created in order to audit patient care including incident analysis, health technology assessment, and clinical audits (Esposito & Canton, 2014). An example of patient auditing would be a patient who is suffering from a chronic renal disease. A patient in end stage renal disease can present with issues such as hypertension, anemia, and metabolic issues (Esposito & Canton, 2014).  A clinical audit in this situation can explore these topics and call attention to problems that arise with these conditions and continue the quality improvement process (Esposito & Canton, 2014).
