Repetitive strain injury is a condition where pain and other symptoms occur in an area of the body which has done repetitive tasks (often the arms or hands ).Repetitive strain means strain related to actions which are frequently repeated. Main causes of Repetitive Strain Injury
RSI is related to the overuse of muscles and tendons in the upper body.
Certain things are thought to increase the risk of RSI ,including:
*repetitive activities
*doing a high - intensity activity for a long time without rest
* poor posture or activities that involve the working in an awkward position.
2. Prevention
Most of us understand and recognise the causes and symptoms of RSI but we fail to take measures to prevent it because we presume that it won't happen to us . Unfortunately,ignoring the symptoms will not make them go away.
Some things you can do to prevent RSI symptoms:
Create an ergonomic work environment that ensures your body is comfortable and not forced into an awkward position while working.Invest a good quality computer chair ,keyboard,mouse and other related equipment.
If you handle different tasks at work ,instead of completing all computer work and then moving on to the next task,consider doing short stint at each task alternately .This will minimise the repetitiveness and reduce the risk of developing of RSI symptoms.
Be aware of posture and make it a point to sit straight.If the workplace is too cold for you ,dress warmly for work.
*Use good posture
* Exercise regularly
* Use two hands to type combination key strokes,such as those involving the SHIFT and CONTROL keys.
*When writing,avoid gripping the writing utensil tightly.
* . Use an ergonomically -optimized workstation to teduce strain on your body.
