RID: 2498 | 07/05/2013A mutant stp exhibits stop-and-start growth in Neurospora. Since the site of the mutation is known to be in mitochondrial DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) we can expect maternal inheritance.
For the first cross, we use a stp strain as the mother and a wild type plant as the father to get progeny. All the progeny will have the mutation of stop-and-start growth since they will inherit the mutated gene from their mother.
Parents:
Progeny: all stp
In the reciprocal cross, we use a wild type female as the mother and a stp strain as the father. All the progeny will be normal and will not exhibit the mutation since the mother does not have the stp mutation.
Parents:
Progeny: all wild type.
