Solutions For An Introduction to Genetic Analysis Chapter 14 Problem 23P

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

By the alignment of the complimentary DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequence against the genomic sequence, we can determine if cDNA clone is a monster or not. For cloning such alignments there are computer programs available.

When we align the cDNA with the entire genomic sequence, we will be able to know whether the sequence is from two different sites. We can also find if the DNA fits within one or two different regions in the genome.

In the case of C. elegans, this monster type of protein is not normally observed.

So if cDNA turns out to be monster, then we can rule it out by the computer alignment. We can find whether it is a fusion of two different mRNAs (messenger ribonucleic acids) accidentally in the same clone.
