By observing the above figure, we notice that the Kluyveromyces waitii is closely related to the ancestral yeast strain. This lineage does not change but the Saccharomyces lineage changes by duplication and deletions.

The genes 3 and 13 are referred to as duplicates since these two genes are the only two which are present in both the S. cerevisiae copy 1 and copy 2. The other genes are present in either strain while these two genes are present in both the strains.
