If someone tells me that cauliflower is an amphidiploid, I would not agree. The word amphidiploid means “doubled diploid”. This condition is not seen in cauliflower. Since the 2n number of cauliflower is 18, the n number would be 9.
Hence, the number of chromosomes in a plant can be used to identify whether the plant is an amphidiploid or not. But, cauliflower is used in the production of three other amphidiploids.
These three amphidiploids are:
• Brassica juncea
• B. carinata
• B. napus
