The constitution of Emmer wheat is AA BB. As Emmer wheat is a tetraploid with two chromosomal sets, if it is combined with another wild wheat, the resulting product would be sterile. The C chromosomes will not have homologous chromosomes in the hybrid parent wheat.

The amphidiploid which can arise from this sterile product would be due to chromosomal doubling in a parental tissue. The amphidiploid would be fertile and hexaploid with the constitution of AA BB CC.
