Solutions For An Introduction to Genetic Analysis Chapter 2 Problem 3P

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

In the table 2-1, the recessive phenotypes are stated below:

1. Wrinkled seeds.

2. Green seeds.

3. White petals.

4. Pinched pods.

5. Yellow pods.

6. Terminal flowers.

7. Short stems.

The dominant trait is expressed in the phenotypes in all the F1 generation. So, in these seven cases the recessive traits are not expressed. And the phenotype ratio is 3:1 in the F2 generation.

Thus, the recessive phenotypes are expressed, when they are homozygous. And in heterozygous individuals, the dominant trait is expressed.
